What are the precautions to take with essential oils

Essential oils have been known for decades for their many qualities and properties,they are highly concentrated natural products that may present risks in case of inappropriate use.

How to safely use essential oils

. Essential oils are powerful, use them carefully and in moderation.

. Always keep essential oils out of reach and out of sight of children, in a cool place away from light

. Do not diffuse essential oil continuously in a non ventilated room.

. In case of respiratory allergies or asthma, avoid inhaling essential oils directly.

For any therapeutic indication or oral treatment, consult a doctor

. Lavender and lavendin essential oils naturally contain linalol, limonene, geraniol, coumarin, which can cause allergic reactions, as well as camphor and eucalyptol: any pure use should be avoided for pregnant women and children under 6 years of age, unless medical advice.

. Some essential oils may be irritating, sensitizing, or have some long-term toxicity: Italian Helichrysum, Peppermint, Compact Oregano, Camphor Rosemary.

. Most of essential oils are to be used diluted in vegetable oil for use on the skin. Do a skin tolerance test in the elbow fold for at least 48 hours prior to use on the skin. If you observe a reaction, do not use essential oil.

. Do not use them on the eyes, eye contour, mucous membranes, in the ears. In case of contact, apply a large amount of neutral vegetable oil and consult a doctor.

. Do not pour pure essential oil directly into a bath, use a base to dilute it before.

. In general, the use of essential oils without medical advice is not recommended for: Pregnant or nursing women, children under 6 years of age, people with epilepsy, in case of health problems.

. In case of ingestion, immediately contact a poison control center and consult a doctor.
